Canadian Lacrosse Foundation

The Canadian Lacrosse Foundation (CLF) is a charitable organization established to administer and grow an endowment fund that is used to develop and execute charitable activities within the lacrosse community. The Foundation's mandate also includes assisting in the celebration and preservation of lacrosse’s history, primarily through grants to lacrosse Halls of Fame in Canada.

The prime purpose of the Foundation can be summarized as follows:

(a) To advance the public understanding of the role of lacrosse in the history and cultural development of Canada;

(b) To educate and instruct lacrosse coaches and officials on the rules of the game and player development;

(c) To provide lacrosse programs in order to support the physical, mental and emotional well-being of aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities and troubled youth; and

(d) To receive or maintain a fund or funds and to apply all or part of the principal and income therefrom, from time to time, to qualified donees under the Income Tax Act (Canada).

Through the years, the Foundation has funded initiatives annually that meet the purposes outlined above. Past projects include distributing books on lacrosse history to libraries across Canada and funding programs to celebrate and develop the Indigenous traditions and participation in the sport. In working with the lacrosse community, the CLF is meeting its purposes through charitable activities.

The Foundation accomplishes this through the management of a legacy fund; the capital in this fund is protected and the proceeds from that investment are used to support the programs and initiatives. The Foundation raises funds through applications for grants, donations and bequests, product sales and innovative programs.

150th Anniversary of Lacrosse Celebration

The CLF organized the 150th Anniversary of Lacrosse Celebration in June 2017. This was a once-in-a-lifetime event that celebrated the history and cultural significance of Canada's national summer sport through a formal event in Montreal, Quebec. A video history of the event was captured and a link to the event can be found here.

Jim Bishop Trust Fund and Award

The CLF has created the Jim Bishop Trust Fund, which is commemorated by the Jim Bishop Award, presented annually at the Minto Cup to an individual who shows the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and outstanding play.

The CLF is proud to offer one-of-a-kind Limited Edition Lacrosse-Themed Prints and Posters for purchase, with all proceeds going to support a legacy fund for the game of lacrosse and the Jim Bishop Trust Fund.
