Canada receives Super Sixes grant ahead of tournament

Aug. 31, 2021

OTTAWA, ON— Lacrosse Canada has received a historic grant from World Lacrosse, which will support the Senior field teams headed to Sparks, Maryland for the Super Sixes tournament from October 22 to 24, 2021.

The round-robin tournament, which will mark the first time Sixes is played on an elite North American stage, will also feature contingents from the Iroquois Nationals and United States.

Sixes, which is part of World Lacrosse’s long-term strategy to see the sport included in future Olympic Games, is even more rapidly-paced than the current model, which is often described as “the fastest game on two feet.”

“Canada’s national teams greatly appreciate the support of World Lacrosse in making this tournament a reality,” said Jason Donville, Lacrosse Canada’s director of national teams.

The inaugural Men’s team will be led by coaches Brodie Merrill and John Grant Jr., while the Women’s squad will be coached by Scott Teeter, as previously announced.
