Canada wins inaugural World Lacrosse Women’s Super Sixes

OSHAWA, ON- Canada defeated the Haudenosaunee 17-4 in the gold medal game Sunday, capturing the honours of inaugural World Lacrosse Super Sixes champions.

 

England opened the final day of competition with a 12-11 win over the Haudenosaunee at the Oshawa Civic Recreation Complex.

 

Erica Evans (CAN) and Paige Crandall (HNL) were named players of the game in Canada/Haudenosaunee. Erica Evans had six goals, Shonly Wallace four, and Dylana Williams three. Alberta's Milana Zizakovic put up two goals in the win, while Megan Kinna and Skylar McArthur had one each. Canada had 43 shots on goal. The goal scorers for Haudenosaunee were Timmia Bomberry, Bean Minerd, Jadie Burns, and Mirabella Lazore.

 

England's 12-11 win was a fight to the finish, with the score not decided until the last seconds of play. Captain Megan Whittle had three goals, while Julie Wise, Alice Ripper, and Emily Gray had two each. Liv Thomas, Anna Saunter, and Anna Neville were the other goal scorers. For Haudenosaunee, Avery Doran had three goals, while Callison Foreman had two. Timmia Bomberry, Ally Trice, Tiana Bomberry, Bean Minerd, Fawn Porter, and Mirabella Lazore had one each. 

 

Canada won four games and lost one throughout the weekend, building upon the success of the team who won gold at the World Games in July.

 

Super Sixes will return next October in Oshawa, Ont.
