Norman Cédilotte named inaugural Chris Sanderson Award Recipient

Nov. 17, 2022

Ottawa, ON—Lacrosse Canada is proud to announce that the inaugural Chris Sanderson Award recipient is Norman Cédilotte. This award was established by the Board of Directors in 2019, and will be presented annually to an organization or individual affiliated with a Member Association that has demonstration passion and commitment to grow lacrosse in their provinces, territory, or area.

Norman Cédilotte has been credited with the implementation and development of several programs in Québec, including bringing together a women’s field team for the 2019 National Championship, an all-girls box lacrosse team, and the revival of the Association de crosse St-Eustache.

Cédilotte recognized a need in his community for more female box lacrosse teams and put together the first female box lacrosse teams for players who had ‘aged out’ of other co-ed programs. He was determined that girls should have equal opportunities to the boys’ teams and developed that programming. Currently, there are two U19 rep teams for girls, on the North and South shores of Montreal, that exist because of Cédilotte.

Most recently, Cédilotte spearheaded Team Québec’s participation in the female week of the 2022 Canada Summer Games. According to FCQ Directeur Général Jean-François Manouvrier, the team has been one of the brightest spots in Québec lacrosse over the past several years.

“During the last year, few have given as much time as him for our sport in this province,” said Manouvrier. “Our sport is stronger because of him.”

Cédilotte currently serves as the Vice President of women’s lacrosse for La Crosse Québec and has for several years. He’s been an influential force in creating and inspiring girl’s lacrosse in the province. In the past 5 years, he’s helped to recruit over 120 girls’ lacrosse players, and continues to seek opportunities for equity in lacrosse.

It is Lacrosse Canada’s honour to recognize Norman Cédilotte as the 2022 Chris Sanderson Award winner.
