Lacrosse Canada Announces Box Referee-in-Chiefs

Dec. 16, 2022

OTTAWA, ON—At the 2022 Annual Meeting, the Lacrosse Canada Board of Directors approved the recommendation of the Officiating Committee and named Scott McMullen and Sean Lehman as Box Sector Referee-in-Chiefs.

“We are excited about the future of Box Officiating with the addition of Scott McMullen and Sean Lehman as the Referee-in-Chiefs for Minor Box Lacrosse and Junior-to-Major Box Lacrosse,” said Steve O’Shaughnessy, Lacrosse Canada Officiating Committee Chair. “The wealth of experience and knowledge they bring to these roles is going to push the National Officiating Program (NOCP) to the next level.”

Scott McMullen will serve as Minor Box RIC.

McMullen has been involved in lacrosse since his early teens and began his officiating career in his early twenties. He has officiated both box and field lacrosse, and has officiated at several national and world championships since - most recently at The World Games in July 2022. McMullen has been the LNS RIC since 2015, and sits on their board. He has also coached minor lacrosse, including several provincial teams that have attended national championships over the years.

Sean Lehman will serve as Junior-to-Major RIC.

Lehman has been involved in lacrosse since he was five years old - after a playing career spanning over a decade, he started officiating as a teenager. From there, he was hooked. In B.C., Lehman has served as the head ref for various minor clubs, the minor zone representative for officiating, the BCLA Vice Chair Minor, and currently is the BCLA Vice Chair for Senior. He also has both minor and senior national experience as an Official and RIC.

The RICs will develop and maintain officials’ development opportunities, including the certification program for the Box sector, and administer officiating support to national championships and international opportunities, as needed.
