Team Canada U19?Women (2015)
This team will go down in history as the first Women’s Field Lacrosse Canadian National team to win the gold medal in the World Championships.
Leading up to the FIL Rathbones Tournament in Edinburgh Scotland, this group of women from both the east and west coast battled against a limited budget, practice time, and significant costs to reach the ultimate goal. They had very little time to prepare together but went into the tournament determined and focused.
Round-robin play in the A pool would prove extremely successful with a 4-1 record; however, they would fall short to the powerhouse US team by a score of 9-15.
This fueled the underdog team going into the gold medal against the favourites. The game was tenacious, and the goals went back and forth for the majority of the match. With 10:39 left in the second half, Canada scored to make the score 9-7 with the US answering at 5:17 with a free position shot. It would not however be enough to beat this steadfast Canadian team securing their spot in history.
